Lone Star Rotorua is one of the busiest Lone Stars in the country. It offers function as well as a busy a la carte restaurant spread over a large and well appointed inner city site close to eat street and the lake.


With a restaurant seating up to 120 guests as well as separate bar and function area this well appointed kitchen regularly sees up to 300+ covers being banged out a la carte.


As such, We are on the hunt for a good Sous Chef with line cooking experience. You will have had experience with larder and pans and be able to keep your head above the water. The role requires someone that is willing to commit and learn. You must have good knife skills and be well organized. Experience with a la carte is preferable and the ability to be clean and tidy is a must.


Most importantly you will need to have a great attitude. Not be afraid of getting your hands dirty and wanting to progress. This role will have the ability to progress with the large team.

Sous Chef – Brydone Hotel

The Brydone Hotel (https://www.brydonehotel.co.nz/) located in the heart of the CBD is Oamaru’s premier Hotel catering to a variety of corporate and tourism focused guests. The boutique hotel and onsite function centre has recently been refurnished and is operated by the Oamaru licensing trust.

With a restaurant and busy café this busy kitchen serves up a stunning array of local dishes which are classically inspired. The kitchen also caters to a busy function market like weddings and corporate events.

This role will have you assisting the head chef and managing the kitchen. Some experience with baking would be advantageous. In this role you will help plan menus and help with ordering. Experience with a la carte dining is required. A significant part of the role will be helping organise functions and events as they relate to the kitchen. You will need to have experience with buffet and set menus.

You will need to have a great attitude. Not be afraid of getting your hands dirty and wanting to learn. On offer is the ability to be part of a large company with other venues in its brand. Also a flexible working arrangement and good progression and pay.

Sous Chef – Ombrellos Kitchen & Bar

Ombrellos Dunedin is a Dunedin Institution (https://www.ombrellos.co.nz/). Located in the heart of the CBD and University this famous gastropub with a huge variety of craft beer and local music has been rocking for over 20 years.

The enclosed courtyard dining with a cozy fire as well as various private dining rooms and bar serves top-notch gastropub inspired cuisine You will be a talented sous or senior CDP who wants to take the next step.

You will have control over the kitchen during the head chef’s days off. The role will be mainly evening work. Experience with a la carte as well as gastropub-style cuisine is required. The ability to be clean and well organized as well as great time management is essential. You will need to have great leadership skills and be comfortable leading a team of 4 staff during service.


Payrate: $27-$30 per hour
